Ramadan vacation cut short for schools

The Education Ministry has cutback on the Ramadan vacation for educational institutions to make up losses caused by shutdowns and political unrest.
Ministry officials said an order will be issued to this effect on Tuesday.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid told journalists that classes and exams were fewer in this term for ‘various reasons’. “That is why Ramadan leave will be squeezed.”
According to the educational calendar, the vacation for secondary schools and colleges is scheduled to begin on Jul 11.
Ministry sources said the step was taken mainly to make up for time lost during strikes which forced reduction of the number of classes in schools.
If moon is sighted on Tuesday, Ramadan will begin from Jul 10 but the vacation begins only on July 15.
Recently, strikes had led to cancellation of several board examinations. – bdnews24.com
