Today Padmaavat seems synonymous with the names of Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor. The three star performers aced their respective roles and made it seem like they were the perfect choice to portray those characters. Deepika Padukone’s graceful Rani Padmavati, Shahid Kapoor’s resilient portrayal of Maharawal Ratan Singh and last but definitely not the least Ranveer Singh’s dark and gritty version of Sultan Alauddin Khilji brought about Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s vision to life.
Not only that, the film also performed exceeding well at the box-office with the worldwide collections amounting to a whopping Rs. 571 crore. However, many might not be aware of the fact that these Bollywood actors were not the first choice for the reputed director. A report in a leading daily claims that Bhansali first approached Shah Rukh Khan for the role of Ratan Singh. However, according to the report, the actor turned down the offer since he felt the characters had less significance in the film. He was later offered the role of Khilji, which was eventually played by Ranveer Singh. While we feel that would have been a good fit as Shah Rukh has given some of his best performance in a negative role, the actor decided to go against it since he received a lukewarm response for his work as in Raees in which he also played a negative role.
Well, after watching Ranveer’s performance in the film we can’t really complain as the actor absolutely sunk his teeth into the character and played it to perfection, reports agencies.
