Ready to work as OC, says new DMP chief

Dhaka, Sept 15 (UNB) – New Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Mohammad Shafiqul Islam on Sunday said if people do not get desired services from any police station he is ready to work there as its officer-in-charge (OC).

“If people don’t get services, face harassment at police stations under DMP then I’ll be there and serve people as an OC, if needed. DCs and other senior officers will be there,” said the DMP boss.

The new DMP commissioner came up with the remarks while speaking at a ‘Meet-the-Press’ programme at the DMP Media Centre.

Necessary steps will be taken so that service seekers at police stations do not face any harassment, he said adding “This is my biggest challenge.”

The officers-in-charge (OCs) and deputy commissioners (DCs) have been asked to take necessary steps for strengthening monitoring system at the police stations so that people can get rid of police phobia, he said.

Action will be taken if any policeman is found involved in harassing, extortion and illegal transaction for providing services, the DMP chief warned.
