Recruiting Agencies’ Assoc BAIRA for Tk 20 bn stimulus deal

Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) on Wednesday demanded stimulus package of Tk 2,000 crore arguing that the manpower export sector is the greatest sufferer of damage during Covid-19 pandemic.

Many members of BAIRA are unable to pay office rent and salaries of staff as manpower export remained halted since late March this year, BAIRA said at a virtual seminar. They wanted assurance that syndicates cannot emerge in the manpower export in future, according to a press release.

BAIRA President Benzir Ahmed MP said he has sent a letter to the Prime Minister explaining the crisis of manpower exporters in April and demanded the stimulus.

“We are persistently maintaining contacts with the government to overcome the crisis,” he said.Talking about syndicate, he said “We will make sure that everyone can do the business in future.”

Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) former director Moktar Hossain Chowdhury said the expatriates were also victimised during the Covid-19 outbreak as thousands of them had to return while many were stranded abroad.

“We should make a database of the returned and trapped expatriates and the Ministry of Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment can take this initiative,” he said.
