Ridoy out to prepare him following Mushfiqur Rahim

DHAKA—World Cup winning Under-19 member Towhid Ridoy said that he is keen to learn from the senior player Mushfiqur Rahim’s dedication and discipline.

Mushfiqur Rahim is the idol of many young cricketers. His adherence to his discipline year after year, extra practice and dedication fascinates almost everyone.

During the BCB President’s Cup, Towhid Ridoy had the experience of sharing dressing room with Mushfiqur Rahim as both of them played for Nazmul Hossain Shanto-led Nazmul XI. The young star said that he has learned a lot from watching Mushfiqur up close.

The 18-year-old cricketer has returned to the HP team camp after the President’s Cup.

“Playing with the senior players was a big opportunity for us,” he said during a practice break on Friday.

“Most importantly, I was able to share the dressing room with senior cricketers. I have learned a lot. There was a lot to learn, especially from Mushfiqur Bhai. I am very inspired to see how he stays so disciplined always.”

In the first match of the President’s Cup, Ridoy was awarded as the best player of the match as he made a brilliant half-century, which helped the side win the match from a tricky situation.

After batting for three more innings, he however could not play a big innings. He said that he will try to overcome the adversities.

“Everyone has high expectations, I also had high expectations. Maybe I couldn’t do that way. I have always tried to contribute to the team as a batsman anywhere. I should have done better in BCB President’s Cup, but I couldn’t. I hope I will overcome these well in the future.”

Even from his Under-19 days, Ridoy has been touting as the next big star. He is the third highest run-getter in the history of Youth ODIs. He has scored five centuries in that level. Only one has scored more centuries than him. However Ridoy has scored three consecutive centuries in the Youth ODIs, a record feat that no one could do.

He translated his aged-level cricket’s success in domestic cricket too. In his List A career, he has scored 820 runs in 23 matches with one century and seven half-centuries, averaging 45.55.

Ridoy said he was trying to make himself stronger through HP camp.

“I have done a camp in HP earlier and I am doing it again. Here you can prepare yourself for the off-season and for the next stage. We are all trying to improve our skills. I am trying to be a more skilled cricketer in the future,” he concluded.BSS
