Rihanna has cancelled her upcoming concert in Nice, France following a terror attack on Thursday night that claimed the lives of at least 84 people and injured others.
The 28-year-old singer was in Nice when the attack occurred, however her representative confirmed to Billboard that she is safe.
Christian Estrosi, president of the PACA region of France and the former mayor of Nice, confirmed the news that both Rihanna’s concert, as well as the Nice Jazz Festival, had been cancelled.
Rihanna announced the cancellation in an Instagram post, sharing, “Our thoughts are with the victims and their families.”
On Thursday, a man drove a large truck through a crowd of people who had gathered to celebrate Bastille Day and watch fireworks. The driver, who was fatally shot by police, reportedly had guns and explosives inside the vehicle, according to CNN.
President Obama, along with a number of other celebrities and politicians, condemned the horrifying attack while expressing support for the people affected by the incident.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and other loved ones of those killed, and we wish a full recovery for the many wounded,” Obama said in a statement. “We stand in solidarity and partnership with France, our oldest ally, as they respond to and recover from this attack.”
