The Community Health Care Providers (CHCPs) working at the community clinics in rural areas could play a vital role in attaining the sustainable development goals (SDGs).“The Department of Health has taken steps to ensure safe delivery of every mother at the health facilities and is extending assistance to the CHCPs toward the direction,” said Director General (DG) of Health Services Professor Dr Abul Kalam Azad.
Dr Azad was addressing a function arranged for according reception to three CHCPs and distributing awards among them at conference room of Nilphamari Modernised Sadar Hospital in Nilphamari district town on Wednesday afternoon as the chief guest.
He distributed crests among the three CHCPs for their laudable contributions to ensure safe deliveries of pregnant mothers at their respective community clinics.
The award winner CHCPs are Swapna Rani Roy of Duhuli Community Clinic in Ramnagar union of Sadar upazila, Sahanara Pervin of Uttar Barovita Community Clinic in Barovita union of Kishoreganj upazila and Sultana Razia of Chhirabodi Community Clinic in Dharmopal union of Jaldhaka upazila in
Nilphamari district.
Rangpur Divisional Director (Health) Dr Amal Krishna Saha, Principal of Nilphamari Medical College Professor Dr Rabiul Islam Shah, Associate Professor of Dhaka Medical College Dr Matlubar Rahman, and President of Bangladesh Medical Association Dr Mamtazul Islam Minty addressed the function
as special guests.
Civil Surgeon for Nilphamari Dr Ranjeet Kumar Barman presided over the function moderated by Child Disease Specialist of Nilphamari Modernised Sadar Hospital Dr Dilip Kumar Roy.
All 192 CHCPs, who are also Community Skilled Birth Attendants (CSBAs), from 192 community clinics of all unions and Upazila Heath and Family Planning Officers from all upazilas of Nilphamari, attended the function.
The Civil Surgeon said the CHCPs are currently conducting safe deliveries of pregnant mothers at 15 out of total 192 community clinics in all 60 unions of six upazilas in Nilphamari district.
“The award winner CHCPs laudably contributed to ensure safe deliveries of pregnant mothers and inspired rural mothers and common people in following necessary health rules to further reduce maternal and neonatal morality rates,” he said.
Dr Saha said the community clinics have already earned solid confidence of common people through conducting safe deliveries in rural areas side by side with providing cost free health services and medicines to them in recent years.
“The CHCPs are currently conducting safe deliveries of rural mothers at limited number of community clinics in Rangpur division where facilities are being made available at other community clinics to increase the number for the purpose,” Dr Saha added.
Congratulating the award winner CHCPs, the chief guest urged all of them to effectively reach cost-free health services with medicines to rural people side by side with ensuring safe deliveries of rural mothers in attaining the SDGs, reports BSS from Rangpur.
