RSM sets to produce sugar from Dec 13

Rangpur Sugar Mills Limited (RSML), a state owned enterprise, is going to start sugar production from December 13.

Mills sources said the management has set a target to produce 4,550 tonnes of sugar worth about Taka 23 crore by crushing 70,000 tonnes of sugarcane during the current crushing season.

A total of 7,000 acres of land had been brought under the sugarcane farming during the 2012-2013 sugarcane season, general manager (Agri) Aleek Shom said.

Earlier, loan and subsidies were distributed to the growers of mill zone areas to help them sugarcane farming, he also said.

Talking to the BSS managing director (MD) of the RSML Abdul Khaleque said they were taking all sorts of preparations to start the crushing season on scheduled time.

Last season the mills produced 2,738 tonnes sugar by crushing 49,500 tonnes of sugarcane. -BSS, Gaibandha
