RU teachers and students demand cancellation of DSA

Rajshahi, March 08 – Rajshahi University teachers and students under the banner of ‘Chatra-Shikkhak-Ovivabak Oikya’ on Monday formed a human chain in front of Shaheed Buddhijibi Smritifalak of the university demanding cancellation of the Digital Security Act. Anthropology department chairman professor Bokhtiar Ahmed said, DSA has become a weapon of autocracy and fascist activities. The lawmakers who made the law consider the people of this country as witless and devoid of virtues.
Those who were arrested under this act spoke against the failure of the government. We will continue our protest though the result of the protests will not come so easily, he added.
Addressing the human chain Mass Communication and Journalism department associate professor Kazi Mamun Haider said, DSA is a scandal for Bangladesh. One arrestee under this act died recently in custody and another was freed. We were shocked by hearing the description of the whole thing.
They were arrested for criticizing the pandemic situation of Bangladesh. They have the right to speak about that as citizens of this country. Now it is clear that the act was made to stifle voices of those persons who criticize the government, he added.
Convener of RUCSU Andolan Manch Abdul Majid Ontor conducted the human chain while freedom fighter Nur Hossain, Economics department associate professor Farid Uddin Khan, Folklore department associate professor Amirul Islam Kanak, Rajshahi press club general secretary Aslam Ud Doula, Advocate Hasib, convenor of Samajtantrik Chatra Frant RU unit Ridom Shahriar, among others, spoke.
Students from different departments were present at the human chain. – RU Correspondent
