RU Teachers, students for 18 Feb as teachers’ day

Rajshahi, Feb 18 – Rajshahi University teachers, students and different organizations of the university observed Shaheed Zoha day paying tributes to Shaheed Dr Shamsuzzoha and demanded 18 February as national teachers’ day. Rajshahi University Chemistry department organized a memorial speech at the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad senate building of the university. Former vice-chancellor of the university Prof. M Sayeedur Rahman Khan was present as memorial speaker and current vice-chancellor Prof. M Abdus Sobhan, pro-vice-chancellors Prof. Ananda Kumar Saha and Prof. Choudhury M Zakaria, treasurer of the university Prof. A K M Mostafizur Rahman, Acting registrar Prof. M A Bari, administrator of public relations office Provash Kumar Karmakar and Chemistry department chairman Prof. Belayet Hossain Howlader were present as speakers on the program.
Speakers said on Zoha’s sacrifice for saving students’ life is rare in world history. The nation should be proud of him. Every teacher and every student demand recognition of 18 February as national teachers’ day.
Students of the university formed a human chain at the Zoha circle demanding 18 February as national teachers’ day.
A public signature program was organised beside the Zoha circle demanding recognition of 18 February as national teachers’ day.
Bangladesh Chatra Federation RU unit held a press conference in front of the paribahan market of the university. The organization will form a mass signature program from 19 February to 26 February.
Black flags were hoisted atop of important buildings of the university.
Two book fairs have been started for 4 days from 18 February to 21 February in front of the Shaheed Captain M Mansur Ali administration building and the Intellectual Memorial of the university.
Different students’ organizations, departments, teachers’ organizations and dormitories of the university organised mourning rally and placed floral wreaths at the grave of Dr. Shamsuzzoha.
‘Shaheed Smriti Sangrahashala’ was kept open from 8 am to 5 pm for the visitor. – RU Correspondent
