RU teachers, students protest KU teacher-student expulsions

Rajshahi, Jan 21 – Teachers and students of Rajshahi University on Thursday protested against the Khulna University authorities’ decision of expelling three teachers and two students allegedly for expressing solidarity with the students’ movement. Over a hundred teachers and students formed a human chain in front of the Senate Building of the university from where they demanded immediate withdrawal of the expulsion decision.
Addressing the human chain, Mass Communication and Journalism department professor Kazi Mamun Haider said, University is the highest academic institution of a country. Teachers and students have the right to express their own opinions freely.
However, the decision of expelling teachers and students of Khulna University for supporting a logical movement is totally unjustified. We strongly demand withdrawal of the decision, he said.
Physics department professor Saleh Hasan Naqib said, it is a matter of great shame and regret that teachers and students have to face expulsion for having different opinions.
Mentally corrupt and low-quality teachers are holding the highest positions in most of the universities of our country. They fear others’ opinions that go against them, he added.

Folklore department assistant Professor Amirul Islam Kanak, Bangladesh Chhatra Federation RU unit general secretary Mohabbat Hossain Milon, among others, were present at the human chain. – RU Correspondent
