Hungary inks deal with Russia for two more nuke units

Russia will build, operate and maintain two units at phase II of Hungary’s Paks nuclear power project. The units will be built using
A series of contracts to this effect were signed in the Hungarian capital yesterday (December 9, 2014) by Sándor Nagy, CEO of Paks II Nuclear Power Plant Development Ltd., and Vladimir Savushkin, Senior Vice-President, NIAEP, sister concern of Russia’s State Nuclear Corporation- Rosatom .
Other than EPC (engineering, equipment supply, construction) two other contracts for operation, maintenance and nuclear fuel supply for the two units were signed.Attila Aszódi, Commissioner of the Hungarian government, informed that the power units will remain under Hungary’s ownership, and Russia will provide Hungary with a government loan. Total cost of the project will be around 12.5 billion Euros and the project to be completed within next twelve years.
The present contract is a continuation of an earlier agreement between Russia and Hungary on peaceful use of nuclear power, which was signed in January of the current year.
Paks NPP is the only nuclear power project in Hungary with a capacity of 2,000MW, which is 42% of the country’s total electricity production. The project has four Soviet VVER-440 reactors.
ROSATOM is the world’s largest manufacturer and supplier of nuclear power plants. It presently has a foreign order for 27 nuclear power units. – Triune Group press release
