The record is against Host Nepal when it comes to the performance against Bangladesh. In their 19 meetings, Nepal had won only four times and drew twice match while visitors with 13 victories are superior against home.
The record in the SAFF Championship itself also does not favor Nepal as they had won only one game off four clashes against Bangladesh. Nepal’s first meeting with Bangladesh was forgettable as former was humiliated by 5-0 score line in the South Asian Games held on 1984. However, Nepal took the revenge with 4-0 victory in the title clash of the SAG.
In the 10th Asian Games held in 1983, Nepal suffered second defeat from Bangladesh by 1-0but registered their second victory in the 3rd SAG on 1987 with same scoreline.
The fifth meeting between Nepal and Bangladesh in the 5th SAG went to the latter’s side with 2-0. Nepal equaled the head to head result after winning over rival with same score in the 6th SAG in 1991.
But after the 1-2 loss in the 7th SAG on 1995, Nepal failed to bounce back against Bangladesh.
In the 2nd SAARC Gold Cup held in 1995, Nepal went down to 2-0. In 1999, Nepal faced two defeats at the hand of Bangladesh-first by 2-1 in 2nd SAFF Championship and by 2-0 in the final of 8th SAG.
From 1995, Nepal and Bangladesh had the six meetings where the latter had the upper hand. Only after 16 year’s wait, Nepal had the taste of victory against Bangladesh in the 7th SAFF Championship held in 2011 in New Delhi. Then, Nepal overcame Bangladesh by 1-0.
But Nepal could not come back to their winning ways as they again were overpowered in the AFC Challenge Cup Group D Qualifiers held in Kathmandu in 2012 in Kathmandu. However, Nepal was able to hold their rival in 1-1 draw during their first friendly match held in Kathmandu in 2012.
