SAFF Championship – Bangladesh unperformed in Nepal’s win

Anil Gurung gets the led in the game while Bharat Khawas makes it two as Nepal beats Bangladesh in the opening game of the tournament.Nepal started up early from attack as Sandip Rai’s shot in first two minute of the game went off the target while Bangladesh got the reply in fourth minute on which Kiran Chemjong did the rescue.
Bangladesh got another threat 1n 10th minute but it was Sandip Rai and Biraj Maharjan who combined well to pass out the danger. Sandip disturbed the striker while Biraj did well to clear the ball.
It took Nepal 18 minute to get the goal as Anil Gurung scored through the head on Bhola Silwal’s cross from right side of the flank.
Bharat Khawas doubled the lead in 31st minute as he scored from a corner. Jagjeet Shrestha delivered the corner, which Anil Gurung got the head onto the assist. Bharat Khawas scored through right footed shot into the goal.
Nepal ended up 2-0 at the first half as Anil Gurung’s first goal was followed by Bharat Khawas’s second.
The second half started with Nepal’s lead. Nepal looked strong in possession in early period of second half. The second half was a special one for Prakash Budathoki who made debut for National team replacing Jagjeet Shrestha who looked injured. Coach Jack Stefanowski did not risk Jagjeet as the hosts were in better position.
Rohit Chand missed couple of goal scoring opportunities in second half as Nepal could have scored third goal in couple of occasions. The 83rd minute coordination from Anil and Jumanu resulted into great chance for Rohit Chand who was unmarked but he failed to control the ball to gift it to the opponent. Rohit Chand missed similar chance in last minute of regular time as Nepal ended up 2-0 in first game of the tournament.
Nepal will play Pakistan in their second match in 3rd september while India will take on Pakistan tomorrow.
