Seeking parole depends on Khaleda and her family: Fakhrul

Dhaka, April 16 – BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday said that it depends on party’s ailing chairperson Khaleda Zia and her family members whether she would seek release on parole or not.
“The matter of seeking release on parole totally depends on our chairperson (Khaleda) and the decision of her family members. It is not our business,” he said while talking to reporters after placing a wreath at the Mazar of party founder late President Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the city.
He made this comments a day after a three-member party delegation led by him met the party chairperson at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, where she is undergoing treatment.
Mirza Alamgir said their movement to free the former premier (Khaleda) and restore the democracy is in progress.
“We have taken the oath to strengthen the movement to free our deshnetri (country’s leader) and restore democracy,” he said.
He mentioned that a three-member delegation led by him met Khaleda on Sunday with permission of the authority after a long.
“During our meeting with the madam (Khaleda), we mainly discussed her health condition, treatment and legal aspects of her cases,” he said.
The BNP secretary general said the party chairperson who is serving a 17-year term in two graft cases enquired about the party leaders and activists and the statement of organizational activities.
“She conveyed greetings to the countrymen to mark the Bangla New Year 1426 and asked the party leaders and activists to get united and maintain the national unity,” he said.
Replying to a question, he said no discussion was taken place over joining the parliament by six party MPs-elect and added they do not acknowledge the December 30 election and they rejected the results of the poll.
Asked over resentment of party leaders and activists for not to launch a movement for the release of Khaleda Zia, he said there are different phases of movement and strategies and movement does not mean carry out violent programme like hartal and setting fire on vehicles.
“I cannot agree with the matter…We are taking preparation for movement taking people with us. We will be able to free deshnetri and restore the democracy,” he asserted.
Earlier, Mirza Alamgir flanked by senior party leaders and central leaders of newly elected Olema Dal placed a wreath at the Mazar of Ziaur Rahman. – Staff Reporter
