Ex-Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth office, UK, Hugo Swire MP on Tuesday called for a partricipatory election for restoration of democratic governance in Bangladesh.Addressing a seminar at the seminar room of the House of Commons in London as the chief guest Hugo Swire MP said all political parties in Bangladesh have responsibility to ensure a credible election and assured that the UK would continue its efforts to coordinate with all parties and help create a stable Bangladesh, says a message received in Dhaka.
Member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Bangladesh Simon Danczuk MP who also addressed the seminar called for restoration of democratic and and fundamental rights which, he said, were now absent in the country.
The MPs alleged that extremism has raised its head in Bangladesh because of the restrictions on activities of opposition political parties, attacks on their freedom of expression and assembly plus interference in press freedom.
Simon Danczuk MP alleged that the government was unwilling to contain militancy and was shifting the blame of terrorism and extremism to the opposition. This was a matter of concern, he said, urging the British government to do something about it.
Chaired and moderated by Simon Danczuk MP, the seminar was also addressed by president of BNP UK unit Abdul Malek, Lord Korban Ali, secretary if UN BNP Koisor M Ahmed, Vice President Abul Kalam Azad, Shah Uddin, journalist Mishfiqul Fazal Ansari, Lord Hossain, foundary of Nationalist Research Centre and poilitician Engr Rezaul Karim, Prof. KMA Malek of Cardiff University, and Nasir Ahmed Shaheen, president of UK Swechhasebak Dal unit among others, the message said.
The speakers call for creating sufficient pressure on Myanmar authorities to stop the inhuman attacks on the Rohingya Muslims of that country. Rohingya Muslims are getting against against the crimes committed against them, they added, the message said.
