Shab-e-Barat on May 11

Dhaka, Apr 27 – The holy Shab-e-Barat, the night of forgiveness and fate, will be observed in the country on May 11 as the Shaban moon was sighted in sky over Bangladesh on Thursday. The National Moon Sighting Committee announced this at a meeting held at the Islamic Foundation’s Baitul Mukarram office in the evening, said M Nizam Uddin, assistant director (PR) of the foundation.
According to Muslim belief, Shab-e-Barat is the night when Allah decides about the fate of people for the following year. On Shab-e-Barat, Allah writes the destinies of all the creations for the coming year by taking into account their past deeds.
The Muslim devotees will offer special prayers, recite from the Holy Quran, hold milad, zikir and other religious rituals seeking divine blessings for the wellbeing of mankind.
One school of thought however believes that there is no direction about Shab-e-Barat, like Shab-e-Qadr in the holy Qur’an. But the practices of Prophet Muhammad (sm) indicate that the Mesenger of the creator used to visit Jannat-ul-Baqi, (heaven of Baqi) – a graveyard of the Prophet’s close family members, relatives, his associates and disciples- in the night and used to pray to Allah for their salvation. – GW News Desk with UNB
