Shahadat’s bail refused, sent in jail

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday (Tuesday) sent cricketer Shahadat Hossain alias Rajib to the jail refusing his bail on completion of the three-day remand in connection with torturing an 11-year old domestic help.
Magistrate Kazi Kamrul Islam rejected his bail petition on Tuesday noon. Earlier, Md Shafiqur Rahman, Investigation Officer (IO) and Police Inspector (OC Investigation) of Mirpur Model Police Station produced him to the court with a prayer to send him to the jail.
The cricketer Shahadat was implicated in a suit for torturing his domestic help Mahfuza Akhter Happy on September 6. His wife is also presently in the jail.
Shahadat surrendered to the on October 5, a day after police arrested his wife Jesmin Jahaan Nitto from a house in Malibagh area of the capital. The court had sent bowler Shahadat to the jail after his surrender. Later, October 8, he was placed on a three-day remand for police interrogation
On Tuesday, after Shahadat was produced to the court, he moved a bail petition while the IO of the case and the Officer-in-Charge (investigation) of the police station pleaded for his stay in the jail until the probe is completed.
Khandaker Mozammel Haque, a journalist, found injured child Happy in Mirpur area and took her to the local police and later filed the case with the police station.
Shahadat last played for Bangladesh in May against Pakistan. He went off the field on the first day of first test with a leg injury. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) got him treated in Australia and he was undergoing treatment for his rehabilitation.
