Shahzadpur reels under flood

Flood situation in Shahzadpur upazila in Pabna still remains unchanged

although water of the Jumuna river has started receding.
More than 100 houses and 15 primary schools and vast tracts of
cropland remain submerged.
Many school playgrounds are now under flood water hampering studies of
the students in the upazila.
Upazila relief and rehabilitation office sources said the low-lying
areas of the upazila were flooded as the Jamuna river water kept
swelling since late last month.
Flood water entered the classrooms and playgrounds of 15 primary
schools in the upazila.
Besides, the grass fields raised by the farmers have also been
inundated, creating fodder crisis for the cattle in the area,
resulting in fall in daily milk production.
Erosion by the mighty river in some places of the upazila also
continues to wreak havoc.
Water Development Board (WDB) sources said affected people are
shifting their houses to safer places in the face of ceaseless erosion
onslaught. -UNB, Sirajganj
