Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has broken Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) code of conduct of not speaking to the public/local media during the World Twenty20.
The board has demanded of him an official explanation of his conduct.BCB will announce its action concerning Shakib’s misdemeanour after he gives his explanation.
“We’ve asked him to submit a letter immediately…demanded explanation. According to our rules during the tournament no player is supposed to offer personal interviews without team manager’s permission,” Nazmul Hassan, the BCB President, said at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Saturday.
“Whose permission did he take, why did he give it? As far as we know this is a breach of BCB’s code of conduct,” he added.
“We have sought his explanation on something he had said. Today is the last day for him to reply to the show cause notice. After this, the matter will be under prosecution following which we will decide on our next course of action.”
Although Hassan thinks Shakib has breached BCB rules, he was reluctant to discuss the likely punishment.
“What his punishment will be cannot be discussed now. I don’t think it is right to discuss it before we receive his reply.”
BCB President has not only demanded Shakib’s explanation on the matter but has also sought the view of Akram Khan, who is the manager of Bangladesh team, on the matter.
“I want to know what they think; whether they think this is right. If it is wrong, what should be done about it? Team manager is a sort of director, so I’ve asked for his opinion as well.”
Hassan hopes to settle the matter within the next week.
“I hope that the disciplinary committee will compile their recommendation within four to five days after getting Shakib’s response. After returning (from the ICC conference), I will call a board meeting and take decision within a day or two. I hope the matter will be resolved within a week. – bdnews24.com
