Shakib eyes nothing but win over Afghanistan

Dhaka – Bangladesh Test and T20 captain Shakib Al Hasan has said he is looking forward to winning the solitary Test against Afghanistan which is set to begin on September 5 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.

“Every team gets into the field to win the game whether they are big team or not. When a team takes to the field, they don’t concentrate on creating or testing new players. At the end of the day, winning is the main target for every team. We also have only target to win games. And to do that, if we need to include the new players, we’ll do that,” Shakib said.

He was talking to reporters Le Méridien Dhaka on Sunday night for the first time after coming back from the well-deserved lay-off.

Bangladesh cricket team are now preparing under the newly-appointed coach Russell Domingo. With the lone Test against Afghanistan, the Tigers will commence their new home season.

Shakib thinks the match will be very challenging for Bangladesh as the Afghans did well in white ball cricket and they are capable enough to do the same in red ball cricket as well.

“In international cricket, every match is challenging. Afghanistan are a very tough opponent for us as they improved vastly over the last few years. They have some quality players who can be dangerous for us. To register a win against them, we have to perform as a team,” he added.

“Rashid Khan is a world-class bowler although he just played two Test matches. But we can’t deny the fact that he is a proven bowler. He got remarkable success in white-ball cricket,” Shakib further added.UNB
