Coach crises hit Bangladesh today as former Queensland cricketer Shane Jurgensen resigned as the coach of Bangladesh cricket team. The 38 year old put in his papers which were received by the Bangladesh Cricket Board who have begun a search for his replacement. Jurgensen became full time coach in February 2013 following a successful series against West Indies and his contract was until the 2015 Cricket World Cup. However the recent poor performances by the Bangladesh cricket team earned Jurgensen some flak thereby making his future associations with the team uncertain. Bangladesh lost the test series to Sri Lanka in January, followed by narrow margin losses in the ODI’s and T20s. Their disastrous performances continued in the Asia Cup (loss to Afghanistan) and the final straw was their shock defeat at the hands of Hong Kong at the ICC World Twenty20 on home soil. The results lead to rumours that BCB was looking for a new coach with international experience to build Bangladesh’s chances at the World Cup next year. Jurgensen’s resignation adds fuel to this speculation. BCB needs to find a replacement soon; hopefully before the series against India in mid-June.
