Siddikur leads in Dhaka Open after cut round

Dhaka – Bangladesh’s celebrity golfer Siddikur Rahman moved up to the top spot form the 2nd in the City Bank American Express Dhaka Open after the cut round at Kurmitola Golf Club course on Thursday.Siddikur aggregated 10-under-par 134 from two rounds, jointly followed by two Indians Rahul Bajaj and Shankar Das with securing five-under-par 139 each.In the 2nd round, Siddikur birdied seven against one bogey for six-under-par 66, teeing off in the tournament on Wednesday for a four-under-par 68 where the leader S H Sohel was ahead of one shot with five-under-par 67. Sohel slipped to the 6th place on the day aggregating four-under-par 140.The two time Asian tour winner Siddikur birdied in the 3rd, 5th and 7th holes to end the first 9 of the 2nd round. He birdied another one in the 10th before went down with a bogey in the next hole, but tuned up with three birdies in the 14th, 17th and 18th holes for a sweet end on Thursday.The 33-year old, Siddikur started his new-year campaign with placing the 49th in the SMBC Singapore Open in Singapore — ended on last Sunday (January 21) — and quit his enrolment from the ongoing Leopalace21 Myanmar Open as protest of the Rohingya crisis.”I could have played there [in Myanmar] as you know it’s a big event with much higher prize money. But I chose not as a protest to the Rohingya issue,” Siddikur said when talking to journalists at a press conference after the first day on Wednesday.A total of 58 golfers from 113 participants, have stayed in the race after the cut round.
