Signing PTA with Myanmar under scrutiny: Tofail

Bangladesh has been scrutinizing the prospect of having a ‘Preferential Trade Agreement’ (PTA) with its close neighbour Myanmar in a bid to enhance trade between the two countries, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed told Parliament on Tuesday.
Bangladesh Tariff Commission (BTC) has been working on the matter, he said, responding to a starred question of Moazzem Hossain Ratan (Sunamganj-1).Tofail mentioned that a decision in this regard was taken in the last Joint Trade Commission meeting between Bangladesh and Myanmar held in the Myanmar capital on January 14-15.
Responding to a supplementary question of Ratan, he said Bangladesh is now exporting quality cement after meeting the domestic demand.
The Commerce Minister informed the House that Bangladesh now produces around 20 million metric tons of cement annually. – UNB
