Department of Environment, Chittagong wing sealed off six industrial units in Patiya upazila of chittagong for alleged environment pollution. With the directives of a court in chittagong DOE conducted raid in that industrial zone on Monday. The industrial units are- Mostafa Paper Mills, Ambia Knitting and Dyeing, Hakkani Paper Mills, Anowara Paper Mills, Banafool & Co, Shah Amanat Knitting & Dyeing. Among them, Ambia Knitting & Dyeing, Hakkani Paper Mills and Banfool & Co are using deep tube well without the legal authentication from concerned authority.Meanwhile the Dyeing and Washing units are not using ETP, as such the chemical mixed water are spreading in the nearby agri land which causing agri productions as well polluting environment.
Director of DOE, Chittagong Mokbul Hossain filed a writ before the high court against these industrial units on January 29 last and accordingly higher court ordered on November 23 to seal off these units immediately. Among others, chairman of Patiya Upazila, Nirbahi Officer of Patiya, Asstt. Commissioner of Land, chairman of Habilasdip were present during conducting raid, soruces said. – Chittagong Bureau
