Dhaka, Apr 20 (UNB)- Bangladesh needs skilled manpower possessing technology-based knowledge in the digital economic era, speakers told a seminar on Saturday.
They noted that the youths will have to gain technical skills to compete with digital economy of the industrial revolution.
The observations came at ‘Digital Economy, Fourth Industrial Revolution and Big Data: Impact on Bangladesh Economy’ seminar, organised by Entrepreneurial of Economists Club at Dhaka School of Economics (DSE) auditorium in the capital.
DSE Professor Dr Muhammad Mahboob Ali read out the keynote paper on ‘Transformation Towards Digital Economy with Special Reference to Bangladesh’.
Anwar-Ul Alam Chowdhury Parvez, president of Bangladesh Chamber of Industries, said that Fifth Generation or 5G will control the economy. Quick delivery of products and fast decisions are given priority in the fourth industrial revolution.
He demanded establishing a human resource ministry for creating entrepreneurs.
Syed Tamjid Ur Rahman, vice president of Bangladesh Center for Fourth Industrial Revolution, said the next industrial revolution will bring a big change in the job sector. “It’s both a challenge and an opportunity for us. Unemployment is our challenge. So we need policy support now,” he said.
Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, Chairman of Palli Karma Sahayak Foundation, said that it is time to embrace technology-based education to keep pace with the world.
Ashraful Islam, former additional secretary and Executive Vice-Chairman of E-Generation, Professor Dr Hafiz Muhammad Hasan Babu, Pro Vice-Chancellor of National University, and Mohammad Sadek, General Secretary of DSE, spoke there, among others.
