Slain Rifat sharif’s wife Minni seeks bail from High Court

Dhaka, Aug 05 – Aysha Siddika Minni, wife of Rifat Sharif, yesterday filed a petition with the High Court seeking bail in a case filed over the killing of her husband.The HC bench comprising Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman fixed Tuesday (today) for hearing on the petition.
Mozammel Hossain, father of Minni, filed the petition with the vacation bench of the HC seeking her bail in the case.
Four lawyers including advocate ZI Khan Panna and Ainun Nahar Siddiqua stood for the petitioner while deputy attorney general Rezaul Karim represented the state during yesterday’s proceedings.
After filing the petition, Advocate ZI Khan Panna told reporters that the HC bench led by Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain would hold hearing on the petition on Tuesday.
Citing from the petition, the lawyer said, “Minni is a woman and she is sick and therefore, she deserves bail in the case. Besides that Minni was the principle eye witness of Rifat murder case. But she has been made an accused in the case, which is a “conspiracy”, he added.
Earlier, a Barguna court rejected Minni’s bail petition twice on July 22 and 30 respectively.
Police arrested Minni after a daylong interrogation on July 16. A court placed her on a five-day remand the following day. Three days later, a Barguna court recorded her statement.
On June 26, Rifat, 25, an internet service provider, was indiscriminately hacked to death by a group of men.
A video footage of the incident that went viral in social media, shows Minni screaming and trying in vain to save her husband.
Rifat’s father filed a murder case with Barguna Sadar Police Station against 12 people on the day of the murder.
Police have so far arrested 16 people over the murder. Besides, main accused Sabbir Ahmed alias Nayon Bond was killed in a reported gunfight with law enforcers on July 2. – Staff Reporter
