Socio-economic uplift of womenfolk stressed

Speakers in a function here on Monday stressed the need for socio-economic upliftment of womenfolk and their enhanced participation in overall activities of the country to push forward the nation towards development.
“Lack of social awareness, economic sovereignty, status and political empowerment, women often become victims of gender discriminations and oppression from family to other spheres of livelihood”, they said.They made the observations while addressing a view exchange meeting on women development organized by Palashbari upazila administration at the hall room of upazila parishad in the district.Deputy Commissioner M Jahurul Islam Rohel addressed the function as the chief guest and upazila parishad chairman AKM Mokshed Chowdhury Bidyut was present as the special guest.With UNO M Tofazzal Hossain in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by upazila vice chairman Anjuman Ara Begum, upazila agriculture officer Shawkat Osman, sadar union parishad chairman Habibur Rahman, freedom fighter Abdur Rahman and political leader Mahmuduzzaman Badsha.
The speakers also said the women had already proved equal ability like men through serving efficiency in the administration, judiciary, education, business, police, army, navy, air force and other sectors and were playing vital roles in taking the nation ahead.The DC, in his speech, said concerted efforts of all stakeholders are urgent needed to bring a change in the social mindset to end gender disparity, violence and repression against women at all levels for speeding up national development.For flourishing women education, leadership and establishing equal rights of the women’s community to attain sustainable development in every sector, the government had already taken various time-befitting steps, the DC added.All the upazila level officials, public representatives, political leaders and social workers including journalists took part in the meeting.BSS, Gaibandha
