The popular Sony Cinema Hall of Mirpur will be the destination for the third Star Cineplex in Dhaka. For this reason a signing ceremony took place on February 11 at Star Cineplex of Bashundhara City Shopping Complex in the city between Mahboob Rahman Ruhel, Chairman of Star Cineplex and Mohammad Hossain of Sony Cinema Hall. Three halls with a combined capacity of seven hundred viewers will be opened in a renovated building of Sony Cinema Hall. The agreement will remain valid for fifteen years. Sony Cinema Hall is already under renovation process and will be named Sony Square after completion of renovation works.
At the signing ceremony Mahboob Rahman Ruhel said that the Cineplex authorities have found that a large number of viewers visit Star Cineplex at its first station at Bashundhara City Shopping Complex, Panthapath. Thus to cater for their needs right at home authorities have decided to open a branch in Mirpur.
Mohammad Hossain said that the new building of former Sony Cinema Hall will host the three multiplexes of Star Cineplex under the name of Sony Square.
It has been revealed that on May 1 another branch of Star Cineplex will open at Mahakhali and by the end of the year two more will be opened in Uttara and Cox’s Bazar.
