Dhaka- Sunil Joshi, the former Indian cricketer and current spin-bowling coach of Bangladesh, believes that spinners have to face the biggest challenge and tough time when they go away from home. The Bangladeshi spinners are having a dream-like time at home as they helped the Tigers to register a clean sweep over West Indies recently.“I think conditions are always tough when you go away from home, especially for the spinners. You need to adapt to the conditions, you need to change your mindset. Your mindset changes every format of the game,” Sunil Joshi on Monday said at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium after an optional training session.
Bangladesh played four spinners in the second Test of the series against the Windies, which was the first instance of its kind. While Shakib Al Hasan led the side, Taijul Islam, Mehidi Hasan Miraz and Nayeem Hasan accompanied him handily.
Sunil talked in favour of the four spinners strategy while talking to the reporters. He said: “I will take you out of the box for a minute. Back in those days, West Indies played with five fast bowlers. Australia played five fast bowlers. It’s the same way when the trend is changing you need to adapt to the trend.”
The Bangladesh spin-bowling coach believes mindset is the key to the success of a spinner. As per his coaching philosophy, a spinner gets most success when he has the best mindset.
“Mindset is the key to performing consistently at international cricket. See, the best example I would give you is we have seen Taijul. He plays only one format. He has been very successful. Because he focuses, he puts in that extra effort in practice and in the match as well. We have seen Miraz (Mehedi Hasan) and Nayeem Hasan as well. And of course Shakib, you know, the master is there,” Sunil said.UNB
