Suspected drug trader killed in Khulna ‘gunfight’

Khulna, Sept 26 – A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at Dhanibunia in Dumuria upazila early Thursday.The deceased was identified as Bikash Kumar Dey, son of Biren Dey of Koia Bazar in the upazila. He was wanted in 20 criminal cases.
Tipped off, a team of Rab-6 conducted a drive in the area around 1:00 am, said Major Ashraf, special company commander of Rab-6.
Sensing presence of the elite force, the criminals opened fire on the Rab troops, forcing them to fire back, triggering a gunfight.
At one stage, Bikash was caught in the line of fire and suffered bullet injuries while others managed to flee the scene.
Later, he was taken to Dumuria Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.
Three Rab members were also injured in the gunfight.
The Rab members also recovered two pistols, six bullets, 55 bottles of phensidyl and 200 Yaba tablets from the spot. – UNB
