Swimming Talent Hunt kicks off Thursday

Dhaka  – Bangladesh Swimming Federation’s Talent Hunt programme, titled ‘Bangladesh in Search of Best Swimmers’, will open at Syed Nazrul Islam National Swimming Complex (SNISC) on Thursday.Public Administration Minister Syed Ashraful Islam, MP, is expected to inaugurate the programme as the chief guest. Aiming to bring out talent swimmers from 489 upazilas, BSF and Navy have jointly organised the the six-month programme, first of its kind in Bangladesh. Participants, split in four age groups, will compete in three selection phases. In the first phase, 48 competitors from each upazila will get the opportunity to contest. Of them, 10-20 swimmers will be selected to fill the 1,000 seats of district level competition at the 2nd phase. A total of 160 swimmers will be picked up for 3rd round, and finally 60 will be selected to join the long-term training programme at BSF. BSF will bear all the expenses, including education expensed, for the finally selected 60 swimmers.BSF president and Navy chief Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed disclosed the details at a press conference at SNISC on Saturday. Swimming Federation General Secretary Rafiz Uddin alos spoke at the press conference. The talent hunt is expected to be concluded on October 2. (UNB)
