The Asia Foundation donates 5,376 books in Jamalpur

The Asia Foundation Bangladesh organized a book donation event on Sunday, August 30, 2015, at Upazila Hall Room, Upazila Complex, Islampur, Jamalpur, to donate approximately 5,376 Bangla and English language books worth approximately 24.5 lakh taka to 32 local schools. Through the event, The Asia Foundation promoted the role of books for developing reading and literacy among students and school teachers of the Jamalpur district. The administration of Islampur Upazila, Jamalpur, has extended their friendly support to organize this event in Jamalpur.This book donation event was a union of young readers, students, teachers, and Upazila  Education Officers, local leaders with The Asia Foundation Bangladesh to emphasize the role of books in building the future of Bangladesh.
The Honorable Parliament Member (Islampur) Ms. Mahjabeen Khaled Mossharaf, attended the event as the Chief Guest. Mr. Hasan Mazumdar, Country Representative of The Asia Foundation
Bangladesh, and Mr. Masumur Rahman, UNO, Islampur Upazila, Jamalpur, attended as Special
Guests in this event. Ms. Jibon Ara, Upazila Education Officer, Islampur Upazila, Mr. Nabin Nawaz Khan Bipul, Chairman, Islampur Upazila, and Abdul Kader Sheikh, Mayor, Islampur Upazila, were also present at the event. The honorable Chief Guest and Special Guests talked about the importance of promoting reading among students and teachers, and also encourage the enhancement of girls’ education through their speeches.
The Asia Foundation Bangladesh donates more than 50,000 new books annually in all seven divisions to approximately 500 academic institutions, libraries, and nonprofit and government offices with library facilities. – press release
