THE LITTLE SYRIAN REFUGEE

HASNA JASIMUDDIN MOUDUD
THE LITTLE SYRIAN REFUGEE
He is going on not stopping
His four-year-old senses tell
him to keep on moving
beyond whoever directed him
to go on to find his mom and sister
He is going on he did not stop
For he must find his mom
He is carrying his mom’s and sister’s clothes in a bag
Across the desert
Whoever has prompted him
As his passport to safety
He is guided by none
He keeps going until he finds his mom
BAHASA MALAYSIA
PELARIAN KECIL DARI SYRIA
Dia terus berjalan,tidak berhenti
Logik umur 4 tahunnya menyuruh dia terus bergerak
Walau pun tiada sesiapa menyuruhnya berbuat begitu
Dia terus berjalan untuk mencari ibu dan kakaknya
Dia terus berjalan dan tidak berhenti
Kerana dia mesti mencari ibunya
Dalam beg di tangannya dia membawa
pakaian ibu dan kakaknya
Menyeberangi padang pasir
Siapalah yang menyuruh dia buat begitu
Sebagai penjamin keselamatannya
Dia tidak dipandu oleh sesiapa
Dia hanya mahu meneruskan perjalanan hingga berjumpa ibunya.
Note: This poem was written by the poet based on a true incident when rescue team found a four years old Syrian boy wandering in the desert looking for his mum and sister with a plastic bag in his hand containing their clothes last year.
