Those with casino money won’t be spared: Quader

Sylhet, Sept 27 (UNB) – Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Friday said no one of those who got the share of casino money will be spared.

“Investigation is going on to catch not only the small fry, but also the big fish involved in the misdeeds. Those who got the share of the casino money, no matter whether they belong to Awami League, other parties, or the police administration, won’t be spared,” he said.

Quader, also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister, came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after laying the foundation stone of Sylhet Road Zone building.

Stating that the government started the drive against casino business from its own party, he said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed not to spare anyone involved in it.

Asked whether the action will be taken against Jubo League leader Ismail Hossain Samrat, he said, “Not only Samrat, many names are surfacing…the investigation has already begun. “We’ll take steps against all based on the probe findings.”

Quader said they are working to stop the plying of three-wheelers, including Nasiman and Kariman, on highways. “We’ve sent several letters to the Commerce Ministry requesting to stop the import of such vehicles. “

The minister said he is sincere to elevate the Sylhet-Dhaka Highway into a four-lane one, but the work on it could not be started in due time for lack of fund.

On Thursday, Quader came to Sylhet and attended a meeting arranged by local Awami League at Poet Nazrul Auditorium in the city in memory of former party leader Shafiqul Haque who died on August 14 last.
