Tigers to defend 176 for leveling series against Sri Lanka

Dhaka – Bangladesh scored 176 against Sri Lanka in the 2nd and last game of the two-match series at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Thursday.Batting first after winning the toss, the Tigers played 20 overs in Mashrafe’s last appearance in the T20I game for their collection for nine wickets where opener Imrul Kayes and Soumya Sarkar set the platform of a big score contributing 71 runs in 6.3 overs in the opening pair which ended with Soumya’s departure.Soumya was caught and bowled by Asela Gunaratne scoring 34 off 17 balls, including four boundaries and two over boundaries.Kayes was run out scoring 36 off 25 balls, including four boundaries and one six, failing to stay with Sabbir Rahman in the 2nd wicket.After Kayes’ departure at 78/2 in 7.5 overs, all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and Sabbir played for 46 in 5.2 overs to carry the team collection to 124/3 in 13.1 overs before Sabbir was bowled out by Vikum Sanjaya.No other pair could stay longer for the visitors after Sabbir. Number one all-rounder in all the formats of cricket Shakib top-scored 38 off 31 balls, including four boundaries, before being bowled out by Vikum Sanjaya at 139/4 in 16 overs.Lankan pace bowler Lasith Malinga captured three batsmen — Mushfiqur Rahim, skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Mehedi Hasan Miraz — for a hat-trick completed in the 18th over when Bangladesh collected 169/8 in 18.5 overs.Mohammad Saifuddin and Mahmudullah Riyad played the innings last seven balls for the final collection.Sabbir scored 19 runs while Mosaddek (17) and Mushfiqur Rahim (15) were the other double figure scorers for the side.Malinga captured three for 34 runs in four overs while Asela Gunaratne, Thisara Perera, Nuwan Kulasekara and Vikum Sanjaya took one wicket each for 15, 24, 30 and 32 runs respectively.UNB news agency
