Bagerhat, Aug 21 (UNB) – A Royal Bengal tiger has been found dead in the Sundarbans under Sharankhola upazila here.
Forest department workers recovered the carcass of the female tiger from Chhaprakhali area under Sharankhola range of the Sundarbans East Zone on Tuesday afternoon.
Later, it was taken to the range office on Wednesday.
The skin of the tiger, 3 feet in height, 7 feet in length and aged around 15, will be preserved, said Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Md Mahmudul Hassan, adding that carcass was buried following a postmortem.
The tiger might have died two days ago due to old-age complications, he said, adding that several body parts were sent to the Wildlife Crime Control Unit’s lab in Dhaka to know the exact reason behind the death.
Moralganj Livestock Officer Abdullah Al Mamun who conducted the postmortem said there was no mark of any bullet or weapon attack on the tiger’s body.
According to the Sundarbans East Zone, a total of 21 tigers died of various reasons in the world’s largest mangrove forest since 2001.
