Titas snaps 77,267 illegal natural gas connections

Dhaka – Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company snapped gas connections of 77,267 establishments, including one CNG station, six commercial firms and 77,260 household ovens, in the last 26 days from October 6. During its drive till October 31 against illegal gas consumption, the company also removed 129.92 km illegal distribution lines from different areas across the country, said a Titas Gas release on Thursday.
A Titas team, led by an executive magistrate, fined a consumer Tk 10,000 in Gazipur for consuming gas through illegal connection while it severed illegal gas connection of Noor Mohammad Sweetmeat, a restaurant and a household consumer in Rajendrapur Cantonment area.
The team fined Noor Mohammad Sweetmeat Tk 100,000, the restaurant Tk 50,000 and the household consumer Tk 20,000 for the illegal gas consumption.
A divisional team of Titas conducted a drive in Bandar area of Narayanganj and snapped gas connection of Dhansiri Restaurant and two roadside food shops. It also disconnected gas connections of another roadside food shops in Gazaria of Munshiganj.
In another drive, a vigilance team of Titas snapped gas connections of Moni CNG filling station at Mirpur in the city for metre tempering, said the release.
The company conducted a total of 333 drives against illegal gas connection and removed a total of 656 km illegal gas pipeline until October 31 this year. – UNB
