Tk 200 notes from March 18 marking ‘Mujib Year’

DHAKA  – Bangladesh Bank (BB) is going to issue regular currency notes and commemorative notes of Taka 200 from March 18 marking the birth centenary celebration of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Besides, the central bank will also issue Taka 100 denomination commemorative gold and silver coins and Taka 100 commemorative notes from the day marking the birth centenary celebration of Bangabandhu, according to a circular issued here today.

The new notes will be available at all branches of Bangladesh Bank, including its headquarters from March 18, the release added.‘Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Centenary 1920-2020’ will be written at the upper side of the Taka 200 notes while ‘Birth Centenary’ will be written at the left corner of the notes. The measurement of the new note will be 146 x 63 millimeter.

At present, there are regular currency notes of Taka 1, Taka 2, Taka 5, Taka 10, Taka 20, Taka 50, Taka 100, Taka 500 and Taka 1,000 available in the market, which were released on different occasions in the past and their designs changed for several times.

Earlier, Bangladesh Bank released six types of commemorative notes to make the special events memorable and the Taka 200 note will be the latest version. Besides, some 12 types of commemorative coins were also released in the past.

Earlier, Bangladesh Bank introduced a Taka-40 note to commemorate the “40th Victory Anniversary of Bangladesh” in 2011. The Taka-40 commemorative note featured a portrait of the Father of the Nation and the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar in the front, and six
armed men on the back.

On July 8, 2013, Bangladesh Bank issued Taka 100 note to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Bangladesh National Museum.BSS
