Tk9 lakh looted from Chuadanga Sonali Bank in broad daylight

Dhaka, Nov 15 – Robbers looted around Tk9 lakh at “gunpoint” from Sonali Bank in Chuadanga’s Jibonnagar Upazila on Sunday.

Ashraful Islam, security guard of the branch, said three people wearing face masks and helmets entered the bank at 1:15pm. “Within a few minutes, they confined all the bank staffs including the manager at gunpoint.”
The robbers then looted everything from the bank’s cash counter and left the spot.
Branch Manager Abu Bakar Siddique said, “The robbers took away our mobile phones and all the money from the cash counter.”
Locals said the robbers threatened to shoot as they tried to stop them.
Later, Deputy Commissioner Nazrul Islam, Superintendent of Police Jahidul Islam, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mumin Linkan, and other officials visited the spot.
Jahidul said it is unacceptable that such an important branch of a government bank does not have any CCTV camera installed.
“The bank officials have negligence in this regard. However, the robbers will be brought to book soon.” – UNB
