Tongi college students block road, protest fellow’s death

Gazipur, Oct 16 (UNB) – Students of Tongi City College blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway on Wednesday morning following the death of a student in a road crash on Tuesday.

The students started their demonstration and formed a human chain around 11:30am and continued till 1pm. Some students also vandalised several vehicles during the protest.

Students said they will continue their protest until the driver and his assistant of the killer bus are arrested. They warned of intensifying their demonstration if their demands are not met.

Habibur Rahman, son of Selim Mia of Noakhali and a first-year student of Tongi City College, died after being run over by a VIP Paribahan bus at Mill Gate area around 8:30am on Tuesday.

His father Selim filed a case against the bus driver and his assistant at Tongi West Police Station on Tuesday night, police said.
