Torch relay of Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Games set to begin tomorrow

DHAKA – The torch relay of the Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Games, organized by Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA), will get underway tomorrow from Tungipara, Gopalganj.

Twenty former sports stars, split into ten groups, will carry the torch of the Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Games from Tungipara in Gopalganj to the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka.

The torch will be lit by the Bangladesh Olympic Association president and Army chief General Aziz Ahmed at 11 am at the Bangabandhu Mausoleum Complex in Tungipara.

The torch will first come to the BOA office from Tungipara and then it will be brought to the main venue of the Games at BNS.

After carrying the torch through various regions from Tungipara, Gopalganj to Dhaka by the sportsmen, the torch will arrive at BOA office in the afternoon where BOA’s secretary general Syed Shahed Reza will receive it (the torch).

The BOA secretary general will then hand over the torch to State Minister for Youth and Sports Mohammad Zahid Ahsan Russell,MP, in the afternoon at the BOA Bhaban.

The State Minister will then hand over the torch to former shooter Sharmin Akter Rotna and boxer Jewel Ahmed, who will take the torch to BNS from the BOA Bhaban.

Prominent golfer Siddikur Rahman and SA Games double-gold medallist swimmer Mahfuza Akter Shila will ignite the torch of the Games on the day of inauguration ceremony of the Games at BNS on April 1.BSS
