Tornado lashes Faridpur, 33 villages affected

A tornado that swept in the evening of Sunday over two upazillas of this district left a trail of devastation in 33 villages of six unions causing damages to homesteads, trees and standing crops.
According to upazilla administration sources, the tornado with high velocity hit Madhukhali and Saltha upazillas in the evening.In Madhukhali upazilla about 60 homesteads of 30 villages were razed to the ground, a huge number of trees were uprooted, tin roof of five schools were blown away and electric lines of Kamarkhali and Bagat unions were damaged.Upazilla agriculture sources said, standing Aman paddy of 110 hectares were affected, sugar cane on 500 hectares were damaged and vegetables particularly the green chilly were also affected.Upazilla administration is preparing the list of the affected people to give them relief.Three villages of Atghar union of Saltha upazilla were also hit by the same tornado where about 25 houses were damaged, about 50 trees were uprooted.One Haroon Biswas, 50, of Ramkantapur village was injured when he fell under an uprooted tree. He was later taken to Faridpur Medical college hospital.A cattle- head was also killed being the victim of a felling tree. Electricity was also snapped in this upazilla
Standing crops in this upazilla have neen affected and the survey to ascertain the agriculture losses is going on in Saltha upazilla. List of affected people is also being prepared here.BSS, Faridpur
