Transgender community holds ‘Mehedi Utshab’ at JU

Savar (Dhaka) Feb 14 – Marking the World Valentine’s Day, a Mehedi Utshab was held on the Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus on Wednesday.Highlighting the slogan of ‘Extend ur hands of love to all’, Sadakalo Community Based Organization –a group of transgender people— arranged the festival at Mohua Tola, in front of JU Arts and Humanities Faculty building.
Dean of Arts and Humanities Faculty Prof Dr Mozammel Hauqe, as the chief guest, inaugurated the event at 10:00am.
Thanking the transgender community, Dr Mozammel said, ‘We could never think of organizing such festival. So we welcomed the event, whenever we got the proposal’.
‘Our students are friendly enough to accept you. You should never think yourselves to be separate from us. You are the part of us’, he added.
Conducted by Assistant Prof of JU Anthropology department Rezwana Karim Snigdha, Prof Anu Muhammed, Prof ATM Atikur Rahman, Prof Firoza Hossain, Prof Shamima Sultana Laki, Prof Anwarullah Bhuiyan, Assoc Prof Anan Zaman, Syed Nizar Alam, Pinki Saha and Anisa Parvin Joli addressed the function among others.
In the meantime, the transgender people offered mehedi to the teachers and students, impulsively participated the programme attended by a total of seven transgender people. – JU Correspondent
