‘Tree Man’ undergoes ‘successful’ surgery

‘Tree Man’ Abul Bajandar, who was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with a rare skin disease, underwent a successful surgery on his right hand on Saturday.Chief Coordinator of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery Dr Samanta Lal Sen said that the operation was conducted on all his five fingers separately without any complications.

A second and similar operation will be performed on his left hand after three weeks, he added.

Dubbed as a Tree Man because of wart-like lesions growing on his hands and feet, Abul Bajandar is the 3rd such patient in the world to be suffering from a rare Dermo Epidermal Dysplasia disease for the last 15 years.

A six-member medical board, headed by Prof Dr Md Abul Kalam, head of the DMCH Burn and Plastic Surgery unit, was formed earlier for the treatment of the youth.
