Dhaka, Sept 10 (UNB) – Two people died of dengue in Faridpur and Kushtia districts while 753 new dengue patients were hospitalised across the country in 24 hours till Tuesday morning.Siddikur Rahman, 55, of Kabirajpur village in Raipur upazila of Madaripur, died of dengue while undergoing treatment at Faridpur Medical College Hospital in the early hours today.
Civil Surgeon Dr Enamul Haque said Siddikur was referred to the hospital with dengue from Raipur Upazila Health Complex on Monday noon. Later, he died at the hospital.
He said eight people died of dengue in the district since January. Thirty five new dengue patients were admitted to different hospitals in the district in the last 24 hours.
In Kushtia, Mina Khatun, 25, wife of Raihan Ali of Kazihata village in the upazila, died of dengue at Bheramara Upazila Health Complex on Tuesday morning.
Health and Family Planning Officer DrNurul Amin said Mina was admitted to the Upazila Health Complex with dengue on Friday and died around 6am today while undergoing treatment there.
Since January, the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) received information about 197 dengue-related deaths. So far, it has reviewed 101 cases and confirmed 60 dengue deaths.
Of the new patients, 318 were admitted to different hospitals in the capital while 454 in parts of the country, according to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Currently, 3,072 dengue patients are being treated at hospitals and clinics across the country.
The government said 77,983 people were hospitalised with dengue since the beginning of this year. Of them, 74,714 went home after full recovery.
