Dhaka – Barguna and Magura Districts made a good start in the BFF-UNICEF U-16 National Women’s Football Championship, a talent hunt tournament, beating their rivals on the opening day at the Shamsul Huda Stadium in Jashore on Thursday.
Borguna outplayed Patuakhali by 3-0 goals. Lamia struck two and Ferdous netted one for the winners.
In the day’s other match, Magura beat Satkhira by 2-1 goals at the same venue. Bristy and Orpira scored for Magura while Farzana netted the lone goal for the losers.
A total of 39 district teams out of 64, split into six zones — Gopalganj, Jashore, Khagrachhari, Rangpur, Mymensingh and Rajshahi – are taking part in the preliminary round of the championship on the knockout basis.
Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) and UNICEF are jointly organising the tournament for the first time to hunt talented players from all over Bangladesh.
