Uber gets Bangladesh Road Transport Authority certificate

Dhaka, Publish Date – December 05, 2019 – Uber was granted its Ridesharing Service Provider Enlistment Certificate by the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) on Wednesday. The license was granted to the world’s largest personal mobility company after it met the specific criteria laid down by the Ride-sharing Service Guidelines 2017, read a press release.
“Today is a great day for Uber in Bangladesh. We are thankful for all the cooperation and support that we have received from the BRTA and the Government of Bangladesh,” said Ratul Ghosh, Head of East India and Bangladesh on receiving the license.
“We will continue to bring the benefits of ridesharing to transform the mobility landscape of the country. Going forward we want to leverage our technology to provide innovative products and offerings to serve our riders, drivers and cities and address the challenges they face today,” he added.
The license is the first step in that direction to realize Uber’s vision of building smarter mobility, better cities and healthier lives in Bangladesh, he said.
Last month Uber celebrated three years of operations in Bangladesh. The anniversary also marked the launch of Uber’s latest service offering, UberPOOL in Dhaka which aims to decongest the capital by putting more people in fewer cars. – UNB
