Unseen portrayals of bird species at National Museum

An exhibition on birds started on April 15 at the Nalinikanta Bhattasali Gallery of Bangladesh National Museum in Shahbagh in the capital. The exhibition has been arranged to mark the Bengali New Year 1424. A seminar with global speakers was held during the inauguration of the exhibition. It aspires to save the disappearing multi-dimensions of aviaries of the country by raising public awareness. At least a hundred species of Bangladeshis birds that have not been exhibited till now have been portrayed in the exhibition. Bangladesh Bird has organised the exhibition with the Department of Natural History of Bangladesh National Museum. A number of photographs along with taxidermies of birds are on display at the exhibition. The exhibition will run till April 29.

The seminar arranged on the occasion of the inauguration focused on the standpoint of Bangladesh, India and Nepal for preserving birds. Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, the Energy Adviser to the Prime Minister was present as chief guest at the seminar. Dr Asad Rahmani from India, Dr Hem Sarag Baral from Nepal, Dr Paul Thomson from UK and Inam-al-Haque of Bangladesh presented on the status of birds in their respective countries and pressed for addressing the issues harming aviary habitat. President of Board of Trustees of Bangladesh National Museum, artist Hashem Khan; writer Selina Hossain and director general of Bangladesh National Museum, Faizul Latif Chowdhury also delivered their thoughts at the seminar. Discussants blamed on destruction of natural habitat, arbitrary usage of pesticides, imbalance created in ecosystem for the reduction of number of birds in the country.
