Dhaka – Hosts Daffodil International University (DIU) will play Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) in the opening match of the DIU Inter-University T20 Cricket tournament on Friday (May 20) at the university’s permanent campus ground in Ashulia..Acting Vice Chancellor of DIU Prof Dr SM Mahbubul Haque Majumder will inaugurate the 15-day tournament in the morning, organised by Daffodil International University.National selector cum former captain of national cricket team Habibul Bashar Sumon and former national cricketer Hasibul Hossain Shanta
will also present at the inaugural function as special guests.Ten leading private university teams, split into two groups, will compete in the two-week long tournament, aiming to hunt talents for the nation and as well as promote the sporting culture and develop interaction among private university students.The final match will be held on June 3 at the same venue. State Minister for Youth and Sports Biren Sikder will be the chief guest at the final.The participating teams are: BRAC University, Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), University of Liberal Arts of Bangladesh (ULAB), Daffodil International Academy (DIA), International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT), City University, Green University, Eastern University, Bangladesh University and host Daffodil International University (DIU).The champion team will receive a prize money of Tk 50,000, the runners-up team will get Tk 30,000 in addition to trophies while the most disciplined team of the tournament will receive “Fair Play Trophy” and a prize money of Tk 15,000.Besides, player of the tournament will receive a prize money of Tk 5,000 while man of the final Tk 2,000.(UNB)
